Dennis Dale Davis

Dennis (Denny) Dale Davis was born December 11, 1946 in Great Bend, Kansas to Evan and Lorraine Davis. He had two siblings, his brother passed two years ago, and his sister Nancy lives with her family in Wisconsin.

Denny’s dad rejoined the Navy and made a career of it.  The family moved from Kansas to Iowa then California and Illinois where Denny finished high school.  He tried out for the football team where the coach told him, “Davis you are to thin, you are going to get run over,” so Denny joined the swim team.

The family was transferred back to California where Denny joined the Naval Reserve and after survival training was sent to Vietnam as an engineman on River Patrol Boats in 1966 and 1967.  Upon returning to the states, his ship was sent to Portland for repairs in the drydock.  Denny returned to Portland after he was discharged and worked several jobs to feed two growing boys and was hired with the Union Pacific Railroad and after 38 years with the company, he retired in 2008.

Denny loved hunting, golfing and fishing or should it be said catching the fish, he hated eating fish and only suffered it with lots of tartar sauce.  He was also so happy to be home for the holidays and family gatherings.

Denny was a great husband, father, friend and neighbor.  If someone needed help, they could count on him.  He walked two miles a day, taking along with him the neighbors chocolate lab because the neighbor was working.  When his Elks Club needed a truck to get toys for the kids at Christmas he was there.  On his walks he visited everyone he passed and if anyone had questions about the neighborhood, they could ask Denny, he would always help.  He is will be greatly missed by family here and back East, as well as his friends and neighbors.

He will be in our hearts forever!
