David Dupree Steward was born January 6,1948 in Van Buren, AK to Hobart and Mary Steward. David met and married Nada Donaldson who at the time was a resident of Galesburg, Illinois and became the father to Kary, Valerie and Sheila Donaldson and had a daughter together Crystal Steward. Kary passed away in 1992. David’s 3 daughters, Crystal, Valerie, and Sheila reside in Seattle. David has 6 grandchildren: Amber Donaldson, Antoinette Donaldson of San Diego, Celeste Blackwell, Christen Blackwell, Eleni Donaldson and Jonathan Blackwell and a great grand daughter, Anna Donaldson. David has a brother, Mike Lee Steward who resides in Galesburg. And Elaine Roper his girlfriend of 19 years and his very close friend of 17 years Robert Sims, Alysia Martin, (Elaine’s daughter) and her children Essence Taylor and Montayo Miller who David also called his grandchildren. Elaine and Robert looked after him in his later years which the family so so grateful and thankful.
David passed away in hospice on April 22 2021 due to complications of COVID-19.
David and his brother Mike moved to Galesburg in the early 60’s to look for work and David attended Galesburg Sr High. David moved to Portland, Oregon in the late 60’s while still married to Nada. She relocated to Seattle in the early 70’s while he remained. David made his home in Portland, Oregon. David was an employee of the Portland School District for 20 years until he retired in the early 2000’s. David loved to go fishing, listening to music, dancing and spending time with family and friends. David was a free spirit and enjoyed talking to people, and traveling to Reno. David had a charming personality and was known for being a “ladies” man.
David loved music especially the blues, James Brown, Smoky Robinson and Al Green. He was known to always speak his mind and praised everyone.
David is preceded in death by his sisters and brothers Mayme & Mamon Steward, Margaret Ann Steward, Paula Patricia Steward who died at childbirth, James Leon Steward, Richard Allen Steward and Aneta Jean Steward.
Dear daddy and grand daddy and beloved friend to many, you are free now. No more suffering as you are in the arms of the great creator. We thank God for sharing you with us but now we must say goodbye even though our hearts ache. We will miss you so much but we all take comfort in knowing we will see you again on the other side. We love you David Steward.
