Curtis Carr Obituary

A Time To Be Born….

On June 15, 1927 in the city of Duncan, Oklahoma the son of Marion Carr and Josephine Kidd (Bruner) was born and named Curtis Carr.

A Time To Learn, Live and Love….

Curtis received his education at Dunbar Schools of Duncan, Oklahoma and only went to the 10th grade. Curtis was a man all about family and remained family-oriented until his last breath. He loved all of his families. He fathered Veola Stevenson of Oklahoma, later who resided in Ohio. He married Sugar Mae Williams and to this union four children were born – Brenda Carr Williams, Curtis Carr Jr., Nehunta James (Carr), Tracey Dean Carr. Later, he married Francis Landrum and from that union six children were born – Debra Jackson (Carr), Gwendolyn Dixon (Carr), Vanessa Carr, Colesta Carr, Craig Carr, Cynthia Carr. Curtis later fathered Vincent Davis of Tennessee and Tyrone Carr of Lawton, Oklahoma. Curtis was from a family of thirteen and he fathered thirteen children. Curt was an avid fisherman and he traveled all over the country to fish. No destination was too far to go to fish. He received a gift of the singing fish which sang “Take Me To The River!” Curtis was a traveling man who made unique relationships everywhere he traveled. He was a life member of Good Sam Club and Thousand Trails camping clubs. He was a member of the Amalgamated Transit Union 757 – Fighting For Our Brothers for Tri-Met of Portland. While working at Tri-Met he was a diesel mechanic’s helper. Curtis was also a member of the American Legion 0888 of Delaware, Ohio and was a Falconhead Property Timeshare Owner. In 1988, he married Willie Mae Hunt of Portland, Oregon and became a member of First AME Zion Church of Portland, where he was baptized. After their marriage they moved back to Ohio for a stint before returning to Oregon in 1999.

A Time To Serve….

He was interested in serving his country and so he decided to join the Navy. He stood almost 6 feet tall and did not like what he saw when recruited by the US Army, so he bypassed the Army enlistment office and walked farther down the hall to Navy recruitment. The year was 1945. Curt served as a Steward’s Mate Second Class until 1947 on the USS George M. Randle in the Pacific Corridor.  While stationed in Guam, Curtis was out on the deck of the ship looking out over the horizon and suddenly became blinded. There was no recorded incident or accident, however this blindness lasted for nine months. He was air lifted to Jacksonville, Florida where he remained hospitalized the entire time. His vision came back to him, but this is just one of many unsolved mysteries in the life of Curtis Carr. There is nothing he would not do to help someone and he did not have to know you.

A Time To Die….

On April 19, 2021, Curtis and his wife Willie Mae were in a terrible motor vehicle accident, and he was hospitalized. While he showed his fighting spirit and battled his internal injuries, to the very end, His Heavenly father called him home on April 26, 2021 under a peaceful and painless submission. His last thoughts and words were about his family and loved ones. Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, all of his siblings with the exception of his youngest brother, two of his daughters and two of his sons. He leaves to mourn his wife of 33 years Willie Mae Carr and his youngest brother Bonnie Ray Bruner and a host of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and close
