Cedric Anthony Burton Sr. affectionately known as “Big Papa” was born January 12th,1961, in Selma, Alabama to his mother Lillian L Robinson and his father Len Burton Jr. Cedric was the oldest of six siblings born and raised in Selma, Alabama where he attended Shiloh Elementary School. While living in Selma, Cedric, his mother Lillian and sister Onnie walked in the Martin Luther King March that went from Selma all the way to Birmingham, Alabama. He and his family moved to Portland, Oregon in 1968 at the age of seven where he attended King Elementary then later transferred to Vernon Elementary in Northeast Portland, Oregon. Cedric graduated from John Adams High School in 1979. Cedric was a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church for over twenty-five years. He met the love of his life D’Ellen Dutton in 1980, and married on November 17, 1984. They have been married for thirty-eight years and raised three children, Tiffany, Cedric Jr. and Shakeryha. Cedric loved his family very much.
Cedric worked for Pendleton Woolen Mills for twenty-nine years in Washougal, Washington. In 2015, he went on to a partnership with Alberta Fish & Chips, which later became 42nd Ave Fish & Chips in Northeast Portland, Oregon. Cedric has always been a sports fan including basketball and football. He was very competitive when it came to playing dominoes and cards. He enjoyed taking his family on fishing trips, and loved the uniqueness of cars; to name a few his LaSabre Buick and his Eldorado Cadillacs. Cedric had a sense of humor and was able to make you laugh unexpectedly. His voice carried and you could hear him from afar.
Cedric is preceded in death by his father Len Burton Jr., Field Roberson, and brother Henry Burton. Cedric leaves to carry on his legacy to his wife D’Ellen Burton; children,Tiffany, Cedric Jr., and Shakeryha; mother Lillian Roberson, Henry Calhoun; sibilings, Onnie Means, Elvis Burton, Carmen Burton, Terrell Burton, Jonathan Calhoun, Justin Calhoun; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; along with a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
