Carl Austin Obituary

Carl Jamal Austin was a devoted father, son, and a true Renaissance man. He lived his life with purpose, passion, and leadership. His early education was shaped at the Black Education Center (BEC), Irvington, Fernwood, and Grant High School Class of 1990 where he learned the value of community and hard work.

As an adult, Carl gave back by volunteering as a coach for middle school basketball and worked  over 28 years at TriMet, where he retired as a Document Service Supervisor. He was known for his friendships and taking care of those he loved. He was a friend, a guide and a source of wisdom and support. He was always there to encourage and uplift those he cared about.

Carl’s smile and infectious spirit inspired everyone around him to finish strong, make the most of every moment, and never give up. He led by example, showing others the power of perseverance, leadership, and self-belief.

A passionate lover of sports, He loved the Dallas Cowboys and excelled in football, basketball, and track at Grant High School where he received a scholarship to play football at Willamette University. His dedication to excellence in athletics carried over into every aspect of his life.

As a father, He embodied the true meaning of strength, resilience, and unconditional love. Dad’s legacy will live on through the lives he touched, the love he gave, and the lessons he shared. He will never be forgotten. He laid to rest on January 21st, 2025.
