The Lathan family, with deep love and sorrow, announce the passing of Bruce Edward Lathan, a beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, friend and steward to the church and his community. Bruce peacefully departed this life on 5 December 2025, with his loving wife and family at his side.
Bruce was born on 9 October 1955, in Portland, Oregon, to Azzree and Brozie Lathan, Jr. He is the fifth born child of seven children. From the beginning, Bruce demonstrated strength and determination, which was tempered by kindness and compassion, throughout his life, which positively impacted all he came into contact.
After graduating from Jefferson High School, Bruce began his working life as a humble, but hardworking custodian in downtown Portland. Later, he worked long hours at the Portland shipyard, before spending several years working in waste management. Finally, he rose to the position of foreman and eventually retired from Freightliner Truck where he made lifelong friends with individuals in multiple positions, from plant manager and executives to janitors.
Bruce spent his adult life as a hardworking and dedicated husband, who was always willing to lend a helping hand to neighbors and those who were less fortunate.
He spent his retirement years dedicated to caring for Maranatha Church; always willing to step up and help fellow congregants and seeing to the maintenance of the church. Also, during retirement he practiced his beloved hobby of photography, making beautiful portraits for friends and family.
Bruce’s life was a blessing to his wife, family, fellow church congregants and his community. He will be remembered fondly and will be missed beyond measure.
