Bertha May Watson was born
August 17, 1927 to Amanda Briggins and Mr. Lee of Wichita Falls Texas. She was the only child born to
Amanda Briggins. Amanda Briggins passed away when Bertha was only 2 years old. After the death of her mother, she was raised by her Aunt Alice and Uncle Sidney Blalock (Uncle Bee). Bertha moved to Oregon in the early 1940s. Oregon is where she met Lavern Watson Sr. They married on May 4, 1946. Out of this union six boys were born. They were married for 59 years. Bertha worked for the Canary and Meier and Frank stores in the early 1960s. She then worked for the Portland Public School District for over 35 years. During her time at Portland Public Schools she went back to school to get her college degree in social work. Bertha was a member of Vancouver Avenue Baptist Church for over 70 years. She also served for over 30 years as an advisor for Les Femmes.
Preceding Bertha in death is her husband Lavern Watson Sr, and Her eldest son Lavern Watson Jr.
Surviving Bertha is her late son's wife Beverly Watson, Son
Erich Watson and Janice Watson, Son Gregory Watson and Sandi, Sons Karl Watson, Marcus Watson, and Timothy Watson, all of Portland Oregon. Bertha has a host of Grandkids, Great
grandkids, nieces, cousins, and family that will miss her greatly.
