Anthony was born June 17, 1957 in Monroe, Louisiana to his loving parents, Ona and Bernice Bates. He was the sixth of the eight siblings.
He met his wife Gloria Bates in high school and they joined in marriage on June 23, 1984. From that union they bore three children and four grandchildren who Anthony adored.
He was known as a jack of all trades, he loved to take things apart and put them back together. Anthony was also a bit of a geek, he enjoyed science fiction, classical music, and quantum physics. He also loved to ride his bike, he rode his bike until he could no longer physically ride. He loved gardening and talking to anyone who would listen. His high school years were spent at Grant High School, where he was known for his outstanding track skills. He won multiple championships and he was so fast that his time even qualified him for the Olympics Trials, he also was listed in the PIL Hall of Fame. Anthony loved his neighbors and enjoyed befriending everyone. He maintained the landscape of the neighborhood and cultivated plants others had trouble growing. And he has been known to mess up a few things. (smile)
