November 7, 1958 - September 6, 2023. Alfred Pennington was born November 7, 1958, to Joseph and Christine Pennington in Portland, Oregon. He was the fourth of seven children. Alfred had one son, Diondre Pennington. Alfred attended Boise Elementary School where he joined the Boy Scouts of America. He then went on to attend Lincoln High School during his freshman and
sophomore years. He then transferred to Jefferson High School and later earned his GED.
Alfred began his working career at Tektronix, Inc. He also worked in security at a Bingo Hall and was also employed at Northwest Packing Company with his mother. In 1999, Alfred earned a Pre-apprenticeship Certificate of Completion in Carpentry from Portland Community College.
Alfred was the life of the party, filling the room with his smile, his laughs and dance moves. as he sang along to his favorite musical group, The Whispers. Throughout his life you could see Alfred playing basketball in the parks, playing pool, and even enjoying the game of Chess. His terrific swimming skills allowed him to save his oldest brother’s life while swimming in the Pacific Ocean at the Oregon Coast.
There wasn’t a Western or martial arts movie that Alfred didn’t enjoy! Even as an adult, Alfred would spend hours in front of the television watching old movies with his parents in the front room of their home on North Missouri Avenue. Alfred adored his loving mother and cherished his family. Although Alfred lived a life filled with many challenges and struggles, he was raised to know that God loved him and would be with him throughout all his battles. His caring family remained a constant in his life, offering endless support and will forever miss his presence.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Joseph and Christine Pennington, brother, Demoris Pennington, and nephew Demoris Pennington.
Alfred leaves to mourn his son, Diondre Pennington, his siblings, Joseph Lee Pennington, Mary Gill (Lee Gill), Tony Pennington, Darlene
Pennington, Christopher Pennington, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
