Adolph Spears Sr. was born on January 22, 1943, in Waskom, Texas to the late Deacon Ed Spears and the late Mother Lizzie Spears. He was the eighth of twelve children. Adolph was introduced to our Lord Jesus at an early age, through his parents that brought him up in the fear admonition of the Lord. This was accomplished under the tutelage and guidance of Bishop A.D. Bradley at New Bethel Apostolic Church of God and Christ in Richmond, CA.
Adolph obtained his grade school education at Verde Elementary in Richmond, California. He received his degree from McNeil Island Community College. In 1963, he relocated to Portland, OR. On December 25, 1965, Adolph married the love of his life, Earlene Lambert. To this union five children were born. In addition Adolph fathered 5 additional children.
Adolph was a mentor, confidant, financial advisor, real estate guru, marriage counselor, surrogate father, and visionary. Adolph, with the support of his wife owned and operated several businesses that he founded, which included: Francells’ Trim Shop, A’s Auto Upholstery, Spears Property Management, Spears and Spears Mechanical, telephone company, Liberty Medical and LLC Car Lot. While visiting Mc Neil Island, there was an upholstery shop created for him and while visiting Sheridan, he taught an upholstery apprenticeship program.
Adolph was employed by Frito Lay and Surefit. Adolph gave back to his community. He hired community members when employment was needed, supplied the neighborhood with grocery’s, school clothes for kids, paid bills for families and housed community members when needed. Adolph’s hand extended to his community which included countless states.
For the remainder of his life, Deacon Adolph served diligently in many capacities at Faith Tabernacle Church under the leadership of Bishop L.W. Osborne, Sr.
On Wednesday, March 16, 2022, as loved ones stood at his bedside, God dispatched a host of angels to transition Adolph “Pops” Spears Sr. from this life to eternal life. He is preceded in death by his wife, Earlene Spears; parents, Deacon Ed and Mother Lizzie Spears; sister, Nellie Jewett-Tahoo; brothers, James Spears Sr., Willie L. Spears Sr., Randolph Spears Sr., and Floyd Ray Spears Sr.; and son, Demetrian Rhone-Spears.
Adolph leaves to cherish his memory his children, Adolph Spears Jr, Deedra Young, Dana Spears-Talbert (Lyle “Chubby”), Nicola Spears, La’Shawanta Spears- Hardy (Deshawn), Quincy Spears, La’Tina Spears, Kwasi Rhone-Spears, all of Portland, OR, and Dwalyn Spears, of Seattle, WA; brothers, Ed. C. Spears of El Sobrante, CA, Robert L. Spears of Pasco, WA, and Alvin Spears Sr., of San Jose, CA; sisters, Dessie Miller of Richmond, CA, Lavada Spears of Portland, OR, and Edna M. Spears of Greenville, SC; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
