Abraham Barron was born on July 21, 1956, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Robert and Willia Barron. He was the second of three siblings in the family. Willia and her children later moved to St. Louis, Missouri, before finally settling in Portland, Oregon, in 1963.Abraham, much like many children, was lively and full of energy. He found joy in baseball, gymnastics, martial arts, and exploring the outdoors, especially catching garden snakes and fishing;. His mother affectionately gave her outgoing son the nickname "AB" because there was a special quality about him that deserved its own title, marking the beginning of his unique journey through life.
Reflection of Life
"Young AB" was known for his mischievous antics, always keeping his family on their toes with his pranks. However, beyond his playful nature, he had a fiery temper that only his mother could calm. Everyone knew that the quickest way to provoke his anger was to harm his mother or little sister. Young AB was a devoted family man, cherishing quality time together and ever ready to assist wherever needed. Whether driving his mother around, cooking delicious meals, or looking after her foster children, he was the family's hidden superhero! His roots were in the historic Old Columbia Villa, where he built his foundation. Making friends easily, he was well-liked and respected for his kindness. He socialized with individuals from the Andrews, Beavers, and Benton families, but always stayed true to his values. Growing up, he attended Roosevelt High, engaging in sports and spending summers swimming and playing basketball, his true passion. Life was simpler then, and material possessions held little importance. The camaraderie among friends was paramount, especially in a time marred by racism, where they faced many challenges but stood united, always having each other's backs.
In his early adulthood, he crossed paths with young Donna MeaShoals, resulting in the birth of their son, Dawon Barron on April 24, 1977 . Subsequently, he encountered a young Vivian "Denise" Gray, and September 17, 1979, Abraham celebrated the arrival of his second son, Abram Barron. At the age of 25, his commitment to Christ deepened, and he was baptized under the leadership of the Late Pastor Rains.
Sometime later, Abraham crossed paths with a young Drewnita Chambers, whom he later married on October 1, 1986. Their union was blessed with the arrival of their first and only daughter, Lonitah Barron, on July 6, 1988. As time progressed, Abraham's commitment to his spiritual vocation intensified, propelling him towards ministry. As their family continued to grow, Abraham and Drewnita welcomed two more sons: Robert Barron on December 24, 1992, and Samuel Barron on October 21, 1993.
Abraham's deep longing for a connection with the Lord became the central motivation in his life, fostering an unwavering commitment as he progressed on his spiritual path. Initially part of Lifeline Christian Church, under the leadership of Pastors Robert and Maggie Weaver, he later transitioned to Christ Memorial Community Church, assuming the role of an elder in 2012. Notably, within the same year, his cherished and devoted wife, Drewnita Barron, departed to be with our heavenly father.
Abraham married Johnnie Mae Barron and shared a life together until her untimely passing on April 19, 2024. Known for his unwavering dedication and deep love for his family, Abraham was a devout individual. Those who were fortunate enough to know him will deeply miss his love, commitment, and humility. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who cherished him dearly.
Abraham is preceded in death by his wife of 26 years Drewnita Barron, wife Johnnie Mae Barron, Mother Willia B Barron, great-granddaughter Zayda Barron, aunt Savannah Jones, nephew Dalo Lagrone-Barron and cousins Bruce Bubba Jones and Joyce Jones. He also leaves to cherish his memory, sons Dawon Barron, Abram Barron, Samuel Barron and Robert Barron, and his only daughter Lonitah Bostic (Danny), brother Robert “Bobby” Barron and Sister Della Jean Barron.
