William Briggs

William Briggs was born on December 21, 1947 to Etta B. Wysinger & Herman Briggs Sr. in Portland, Oregon. He has four brothers and one sister; Herman Jr., Robert (his identical twin), Richard, Shawn, and Brenda. Young William attended Beach Elementary school and Jefferson High School. He began his military service right after high school. Serving a total of 24 years, 3 months, and 3 days in multiple branches. 

United States Navy, 19-Jan-1967 to 16-Oct-1970; United States Air National Guard 22-Dec-1984 to 16-Dec-1999; United States Air Force Reserves for the remainder of his duty. He received numerous awards and medals during his enlistment. CBT RDY MDL 3; NTL DEF SVC MDL 1; AF LGY SVC MDL 3; ARF MER SVC MDL 4; State Awards: ORNG FAITHFUL DEC 1996; SVC AWD 15 YRS; ORNG COMM MDL JULY 1991.

March 31, 1969 William married Shirley Walden. To this union they added four children, Tony, Tanya, Ronald and Renee. Twelve grandchildren De'Andre, Ronald Jr., Cherille, Deshaun, Montrell, Joshaun, Micah, Tajanae, Tajahana, Tajaliyah, Ta'Ron, Ta'Shaun and 12 great grandchildren. As well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and good friends.

William was loved by so many and dubbed the "Neighborhood Dad". I'm sure a lot of us have fond memories and stories. If he ever had a "talk" with you he was dropping knowledge or encouragement. He was so rich with love and family that he will definitely be missed and never forgotten. He left too much behind...
