Robert Daniel Simmons, M.D., died Dec. 17, 2018 after a long battle with prostate cancer. He was surrounded by his wife and daughters.
Robert "Bob" Simmons was born to Joseph and Esther Simmons Sept. 2, 1938 in Monmouth, Ill. He attended the University of Iowa from 1956-1959 and received his Medical degree from St. Louis University in 1963. He completed his surgical internship and residency at St. Louis University prior to being drafted into the U.S. Navy in 1968. He served on the USS Repose as a staff surgeon during the Vietnam war from 1969-1970. He completed his plastic surgery residency at Presbyterian St. Lukes Hospital in Chicago. He started his private practice in Portland in 1972 where he worked the remainder of his career. Bob was a member of various organizations. He retired in 2000.
He married the love of his life Sandra Elizabeth Stephens in 1962 and they enjoyed 56 glorious years together. They raised their three children in Portland, Eric (Sherry), Laura (Don) and Jennifer (Bertony). Bob will be fondly remembered by his six grandchildren, Tylin, Shane, Quinn, Clare, Miles and Jacqueline.
Preceded in death by his mother and father and oldest brother, Joseph Jr. He leaves to cherish his memory his brothers, William (Phyllis) and John (Margery).
