Mary Fields Obituary

Mary Lovette Fields was born on November 16, 1960, in Nacogdoches, Texas.  She was the first-born child to Lovie Jean Fields and Edward Fields.  In 1970 the family moved to Portland, Oregon where she attended grade school and later attended Adams High School; where she was active in the drill team and excelled in her sewing class.

Lovette was an invaluable asset to her Mother in helping with the rearing of her four other siblings.  Although a strict disciplinarian, she could always be seen with a trail of little children following her to outings, to annual parades, The Rose Festival, The Carnival, to see the Gingerbread Man, and other holiday events throughout Portland.   Ensuring that her siblings, young cousins and other youth in the neighborhood had fun colorful memories she seized every opportunity to bogard any audition, pageant, or fashion show in order to secure a spot for her protégé,

Lovette was always active in the nurturing of children’s artistic endeavors and education. So much so to where her youngest brother Ezekiel used to call her “Mama”.  An 18-year old, Lovette put a screeching halt to that, after realizing it served as a deterrent to young suitors.

Mary Lovette shared a lifelong friendship with Jimmy Lee Oliver, from their friendship three beautiful children were born.

The greatest joys of Lovette’s life was when she gave birth to Jimmy Lee Oliver Jr., De’Aingelo Devon Oliver (who has preceded her in death) and Yunitta Leviticus Oliver (who has also preceded her in death).

Lovette also enjoyed cooking and loved dutifully being a Mother; throwing the biggest and some would argue the best birthday parties for her children.

Mary worked as a cake decorator for many years.  Later as a traveling merchant while displaying her wears you could always expect fair business…from nice watches, sunglasses, and purses, with a pair of leggings thrown in… “she was always tryin’ to sale somethin’”.  Ever the consummate entrepreneur Lovette would even create gift baskets and toy trucks for Easter.  They were so popular that people would put their orders in months in advance.

Throughout her trials and tribulations, she always managed to keep a smile on her face and make others laugh and maintain an unwavering trust in God.

Mary Lovette Fields passed away on April 22, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. and is preceded in death by her parents and her afore mentioned children.

She leaves to cherish her memory her eldest Son Jimmy Lee Oliver Jr., Daughter Breneszell Lott (Piggy), Six grandchildren: Tayonna Oliver, Ta’Niah Oliver, Trevian Oliver, Patrick Oliver, Ma’Layja Oliver, Geavony Amor Ferrira. One sister Jeretha Marbury; Three brothers Eddie Fields, Patrick Minner and Ezekiel Minner.  Five nephews: Donald Page Jr., (D.J.), Andre Page, Nordrea Minner, Lovette Harris Jr., Royal Fields.  Four nieces:  Alexa Page, Bradley Minner; Juanita Chavarria, Phylicia Rosetta Fields and a small pride of great nieces and nephews as well as a host of loved ones and friends.

Honorable Mention of Surviving Elders: Aunt Bessie Johnson, Oldest living Cousin Donn Jr. Wilson.

Lovette truly loved her entire family, and she will be dearly missed.
