Lloyd Allen Obituary

Lloyd Wesley Allen was born on January 7, 1937, to Reverend Daniel E. Allen and Pearl Allen in Lubbock, Texas.  Lloyd passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 after a long and courageous battle with COPD.

Lloyd moved to Portland, Oregon at an early age and attended Holliday Elementary School before graduating from Washington High School in 1958. Lloyd enjoyed writing music, arranging music, singing, sports, and caring for animals.  Lloyd started playing the guitar at age thirteen and he began playing music professionally at age fourteen. Lloyd played with artists such as Billy Exstein, James Brown, BB King, Aretha Franklin, Etta James and many others.  Lloyd played several genres of music, but the Blues were his true musical love. He was known to Portlanders as  “The Legendary Lloyd Allen”. Lloyd also played semi-pro basketball with the Court Justice Team.

Growing up in the Allen household, Lloyd had a small zoo. He owned, and cared for three monkeys, several canines including a Doberman Pincher, a Boxer, a German Shepard, Jacque the Chow, a squirrel, Herbie, a two year old male lion and several snakes including a large Boa Constrictor.

There was always love and joy in the Allen home.

Lloyd was raised in the church under the strict teachings of Reverend Daniel E. Allen and Pearl Allen. As he grew into manhood, Lloyd drifted from the church, but later in life, he repented and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior prior to his death.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Daniel E. Allen and Pearl Allen, daughter Vanessa Allen, sisters Ozell Allen, and Joyce Strachan. Brothers Dossie Lee Allen, Roland Allen, Lavanious Allen, Daniel E. Allen Jr., Willie K. Allen, Jerry Earl Allen, Marvin Lewis Allen, Lavon Allen.
