Life Legacy

Robert Lee Menefee, Jr. was born on May 25th, 1946 to the proud parents of Pastor Robert Lee Menefee, Sr. and Mary Louise Menefee in Portland, Oregon. The proud parents were overjoyed to finally have a child after 7 years of marriage. While she carried him, she would often sit and play the piano, so when he became a teenager his parents bought a piano for the home. Robert instantly started playing the piano. Robert was gifted and anointed to play the piano. He loved to be in church and play for the house of the Lord.

During his elementary years he attended Highland Grade School and while attending Jefferson High School he played baseball. Robert graduated from Jefferson High School in 1964. After graduating, he began working for The American Linen Company until he received draft papers from the U.S. Army. He then married the love of his life, Ms. Jean Gaston and left for the military the next day. They then moved to Tacoma, Washington. They were blessed with 2 children: Deon Lee and Serena Marie. Later they moved back to Portland, Oregon and Robert began working and playing baseball for a local senior league. Baseball was his passion his ‘second love’.

Later he married Emma Glass and they had two children, Anthony and Contessa. Robert then became a bookkeeper for a daycare center where he worked for several years. Robert gave his life to the Lord at his father’s church, The Gethsemane Church of God in Christ, where he began in ministry.

Years later, Robert then married Balinda Hall and they had 2 children, Tanischa and Robert L. Menefee, Jr. Robert helped his dad in the church, and the church could always depend on him to play the piano anytime the doors were open. After the passing of his dad, Robert helped his brother Winfred at the church until moving to Denver, Colorado where he lived for a few years off and on. He returned to Portland during the sickness of his mother. After her passing, he moved back to Denver where he played the piano for various pastors in need of a pianist. In his later years, he returned to Portland and began playing for St. Luke Church where he loved to play and sing one of his favorite songs: “Something Has Got a Hold of Me”, this song often moved his spirit and he would shout and praise to the Lord, which everyone enjoyed seeing him do. No one could play the piano like Robert; his fingers touched those keys like magic. We will all miss Robert’s anointed playing.

Robert is preceded in death by his father (Robert Lee Menefee, Sr.), mother (Mary L. Menefee), brothers (Charlie, Charles and Winfred). He leaves to mourn his loss, sons: Deon Lee Menefee, Anthony, and Robert Lee Menefee, Jr., daughters: Serena Marie Menefee, Contessa L. Erhardt (husband John) and Tanischa Smith (husband Michael). Brot hers: Raymond Earl, Gerald Eugene. Sisters: Sandra Ruth Slider (husband Ronald), Patricia Louise and a host of nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
